We're taking our country back.
I'm watching Obama's acceptance speech, but only minutes ago, I was at an election night party at a movie theater. I can't tell you how amazing it was as more returns came in, and the crowd became increasingly louder. At about 11pm, when another CNN projection was coming in, we counted down ...10, 9, 8...hoping to hear that maybe Florida was finally called for Obama (Ok, I was hoping that)...6, 5, 4... that another big state was coming in... 3, 2, 1...and the screen lit up:
BARACK OBAMA ELECTED PRESIDENT
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers, Joy, Tears...in as diverse a crowd as you can imagine. My group of friends consisted of white and black people. There were two sisters, twins who happen to be black and one is engaged to a white man. I held Sherri's hand and with tears streaming down her face, she whispered as she said "all my life, they told us it couldn't happen; a black person couldn't be elected president". I was feeling pure joy and shaking as I told her, "isn't it great to be wrong sometimes?".
I truly believe the not-so-simple act of electing Barack has already done more for us than any election in decades.
YES WE DID....And tonight is just the beginning....
