I like how all of the news media refer to the Inauguration, or the swearing in, as "The Moment". It's true, there is a "moment" that it all comes together, but it's like they wanted to capture the importance of this day, this event, and really couldn't come up with anything else. I can't blame them...how do you quickly sum up what's happening here? It's historic, it's joyous, it's unlike anything this city or this country has seen before...so it's hard make into a sound bite.
Anyway, for "The Moment", I was able to remain at home, and through a random stroke of events, several of my friends found their way to my place for an impromptu celebration. Two of them had silver tickets to seating on the mall, but were unable to get through security and crowds and decided to cut their losses. After they saw the wide shot on tv with the crowds, they knew they'd made the right choice. Another friend of mine who didn't want to brave the crowds was already on the way over, as was the husband and new baby of one of the friends with tickets. Everyone made it by Pres. Obama's speech, and we toasted a new era in US History. I honestly couldn't have picked a better way to spend "The Moment".
