Wow, it has been WAY too long since I've posted anything. I've had lots of ideas for posts, and unfortunately, like many a great book idea, artistic masterpiece, and solution for world peace, the posts are lost in the ether of neural synapses. And yes, all of my post ideas were that great.
Anyway, I don't think I can cover everything I've missed, but the short version is that I had a job interview in Feb. that finally paid off in May...(I'd like to say patience won that one, but I just hadn't applied for anything else since then, and really, procrastination won out for my new employer. Do you think that's a good sign?) So I'm no longer at the shelter, and it was a VERY difficult decision to leave. Why? Well, despite the work being unrelated to my degrees, the reward of doing something I felt passionately about (caring for the homeless cat and dog population by promoting higher standards of animal welfare) was amazing. I can honestly say that to be truly happy at one's job is something EVERYONE should experience in her or his lifetime, and I hope that this is the sign of things to come for me. Of course, for many reasons, it was the right thing for me to leave, and I intend to stay connected with the Washington Animal Rescue League by volunteering, and of course, staying in touch with all of the great friends I made there!
And even though it was time to move on...I got a job as an Operations Manager at Clean Cuts Music & Sound Design!...one of the best things I discovered was that there is a career field I love and can thrive in, that I can always be a part of and go back to, should any other job I have not work out. And that's HUGE.
So the new job is still new, and with that, it's hard to say much of anything other than its related to my latest degree, it provides me with free lunch every day (hooray for Panera! and Italian and countless other local restaurants!), and I'm continueing to work on my sound design dreams every day.
I've also been lucky to have my sister Julie move in with me; I've attended my friends' fun, multicultural wedding; I've helped launch cat adoption events at the shelter; I've longed for my Jan. cruise to repeat itself; I've gained a scar on my left arm from an ill-advised move with a cat from the shelter; I've wished my scar had a cooler story other than "cat-bite"...but I'm sure a tiger bite would be worse; I've crammed far more friends into my tiny living room than should be humanly possible as we celebrate things like my birthday; I've missed the friends and family I couldn't get into my apt. that day (darn distance problem); I've made more baby blankets for friends and family; I've baked an awful lot of cupcakes; I've watched a film at the GI film festival here in DC that was created by my insanely talented high school band director; and I've enjoyed the perks that come from having good neighbors and a shared porch in weather that is neither too hot nor too cold (I'm looking forward to summer bbq's too!).
So yes, I've been busy, and yes, I've got things to say. Hopefully I'll get back to writing them all down. Because I actually do want to write a book, create artistic masterpieces, and find a solution to world peace (ok that last one is probably out of my league, but dreams are good!). Seeing as the first option is most likely, I'm just gonna need a lot of practice. But don't be surprised to find political opinions here, and possibly a few creative ideas (wouldn't everyone love a murder mystery and romantic comedy story that takes place on a cruise ship? Can you mix romantic comedy with gripping murder mystery? Oh yes you can, just watch "Arsenic and Old Lace"!!), along with the updates on my life that include stories of my new work place and how they put sound effects in "American Logger", or dream up "Deadliest Catch" promos.
Yup, there are good things to come...

A book, eh? Is that what you want to write? A romantic comedy murder mystery?
