Well, it's been a while since I'd done anything kinda crazy (such as, you know, going to get my ear pierced in the middle of an ice storm, or driving through the US's mountains during mid-winter)...so today I did a little something.
I've been spending 12 hour days at school finishing projects and it's beginning to wear on me. This morning, we luckily didn't have class until 1pm, so I enjoyed a lazy morning that even included Bob Barker's last hosting of the Price is Right. For most of the morning it was also raining pretty hard, and I didn't have the energy to fight that on a bike, so I considered taking the bus. Of course, by the time I could go to school, it stopped raining...but I'd already planned my bus outfit...long, double-split skirt, and stiletto boots that nearly go to my knees. Why this? Mostly because I need to do laundry.
Anyway, I just decided then today would be the day I'd test wearing those boots and a skirt on my bike. Oh yes, and my long black trench coat. You see, I've been working up to this. I love that coat and barely got to wear it in Florida, but here, well, I might just be able to wear it all year long. So last week I found the trench coat works well in the rain (and I can handle it on the bike...it's not a duster) because it can cover to my knees while riding. I figured the boots could cover most of the rest if I could bike in them. This would then equate to rain gear without me having to buy anything expensive! And today it worked!
So, for today, I did it. I rode up and down hills in a long coat, long skirt, and those boots. Plus my backpack and another small shoulder bag to hold sandals in case the boots wouldn't cut it uphill (I'm not totally insane). I also tested my skills by biking to Wendy's first. Mmm...food I didn't have to cook. Of course, that was dumb right before riding since grease and exercise don't mix. I felt a bit like a beached whale going uphill at first. oh well. gotta work it off somehow. It took a little bit getting on and off the bike, but I think the real trick is how the boots don't have any traction, so you have to be careful not to slip off the pedals when really pushing it. I think I only slipped twice...I'm a total pro!
I'm sure I made for quite a sight, but hey, it just goes to show you I can do anything. or at least anything in heels. This is why female super heroes are far superior to the guys. Oh, and yes, i totally rubbed it in when I got to class. "Hey boys, bet you can't do this!" One of the more competitive ones says he'll try on his skateboard...skirt, heels, and all...i said if he can pull that off...then he can win. I'll keep you all posted. But don't hold your breath! ;) I rule!
