I just got home from school and I heard this crazy commotion outside my apartment. I slipped my sandals on, grabbed my camera, and rushed out. Apparently I caught the monthly bike rally for "critical mass". It seems to be their term for being environmental, specifically regarding travel on bikes and such as a protest to oil. I don't think I've ever seen so many bikes in one spot! (i'm sure the decent weather helped) While I had just finished biking and felt in no way inclined to join them, I do believe every other biker in the city was part of this thing. It lasted for a good 15 minutes...pretty much stopping all traffic (which is a complaint of many city commuters) on a major street around 6:30pm. I can't even imagine what it would take for something similar to happen in the U.S...particularly in a city that is not the nation's capital!
I applaud their efforts...and I'm also glad I wasn't trying to drive anywhere today!
