Happy Thanksgiving - Canadian Edition

So today, October 8, is Thanksgiving in Canada. I bet you didn't know that. I didn't know that until now. Apparently it's similar to the US...you get the day off, you eat turkey, you watch a parade, and then you watch footb...I mean, hockey! Since it's not really Thanksgiving to me, I decided to celebrate my own way. Oh, there was still food involved...but it did not end well for said food (does it ever?). Actually, it was very much how I imagine a cooking show would go if I was the star chef...the resulting "dish" would be messy and not at all edible! But it would be tons of fun!

In honor of faux thanksgiving, I had a foley session where I created massive veggie-fruit carnage in the form of eviscerated jello, squished tomatoes, shredded grapefruit, pummeled cantaloupe, and busted celery. The audio result? Gloopy mess, splattered blood, torn flesh, head bashing, and broken bones!! You can tell by the picture that I loved every second. =D Poor little cantaloupe, it never stood a chance against me and my hammer.

The jello was actually my mom's idea...I'm happy to say I've finally found a use for it beyond the only food you can eat when you're sick. it made some fantastic squish-gloop noises. My partner in crime was Tracy...a sound design student who graduated a few terms ago that I've since become friends with. She brought her dog, Winston, in, and we got some good barks and growls, as well as bone chewing...should make great monster noises! if I keep this up, I may not be able to watch scary movies, but I can do the sounds for them!

So Happy Canadian Thanksgiving...I highly recommend celebrating this way next year...or at your American Thanksgiving this year if you have some stress to relieve!

[editor's note: mostly rotten vegetables were harmed in this demonstration. They had it coming.]

Very scary, Stephanie. It looks like a bit too much fun - which means it's just my kind! (a little afraid to hear the end results, though)

What? No links to sound effects!

I will have to go and listen to Weasel Stomping Day by Weird Al Yankovic to get my fruit sound effect fix. http://tinyurl.com/ybbg4t

Looks like fun.
