Somewhere the Girl Scouts are Crying...

So, how am I doing in the semi-frozen midwest? Let's just say it's good I'm not on Survivor. The other day my family was completely out of the house, and they all left without starting a fire in the woodstove for me. This shouldn't be such a big deal. After all, I was in Girl Scouts for about 8 years. But I don't like camping. So what did I learn in 8 years of scouts? Clearly not the way to start a fire in a woodstove! To be fair, it can be tricky. You have to have the right ducts and flues open...no smothering the fire. So that was the first challenge I never quite figured out. The next was getting the right mix of newspaper and kindling to burn long enough to start the wood on fair. Failed step number 2. I really gave it an honest shot too. I spent around 15 min on it, left it alone, then tried again. Sigh...

Of course I didn't freeze to death, but I refused to turn up the heat in the house for fear of getting in trouble for touching the thermostat. I'm sure I would have been fine, but the back room I was working in was never well ventilated anyway. God bless blankets and warm kitties who enjoy sitting on laps!

When my little brother got home, I enlisted his help with the wood stove. It all worked out too because he wanted help for his art project. I told him how to do some still life shading, and gave him better shading pencils to work with. So who says art skills aren't a valuable trade?! Yup, I think I should at least get a badge for my artistic survival skills. But not one made out of twigs or that I have to actually sew together...

I understand where you're coming from... just the other day I had trouble loading my musket and getting the phonograph to stop skipping.
